The National Organisation for the Reform of Marijuana Laws
(NORML), the nation's oldest and most well respected grassroots marijuana
law reform organisation, today announced the launch of the NORML Women's
Alliance. <www.norml.org/women>
The NORML Women's Alliance is a nonpartisan coalition of prominent,
educated, successful, geographically diverse, high-profile professional
women who believe that cannabis prohibition is a self-destructive and
hypocritical policy that undermines the American family, sends a mixed and
false message to our young people, and destroys the cherished principles
of personal liberty and local self-government.

NORML NEWS SUMMER 2008. BY ABE GRAY
Down in Dunedin we have been taking matters in to our own hands. On the heels of our successful hot-boxing
of the Dunedin Central Police station two J Days in a row, we’ve established a weekly mini-J Day on the
Otago University campus, Friday 4:20, which as you can imagine is held on Fridays at 4:20pm, on the Union
Lawn. This weekly event has become a safe zone, where cannabis smokers know they can come and smoke in
peace, safe from persecution and arrest, in a fun, social atmosphere.

Otago University's NORML group has, for the past two or three years, gathered on the Union Lawn every Friday at 4:20pm for a protest against cannabis prohibition and old-fashioned smoke-in, known as the Friday 4:20.
Following a dispute between Campus Watch and NORML over whether the smoke-in should be tolerated, the group featured on the front page of the Otago Daily Times, and TV One's Close Up show attended, complete with gas masks. This year's NORML conference will be held in Paki Paki, near Hastings, November 27-28. For directions read more
NORML needs a winning strategy, and we need to plan our actions so that we are the most effective we can be. As we get closer to the 2005 election, we must make sure cannabis law reform is on the agenda, and that parties who support reform are strongly represented in the next Parliament. To do this we need a plan and active NORML members and branches!

NORML were mentioned in the press pointing out the problems with the planned new driver impairment tests.
A group of 32 officers will be "specially trained" this month to use subjective measures to detect drivers on drugs, such as pupil dilation and physical coordination, in preparation for a three to six-month trial expected to begin in June. The NZ regions to be included in the trial have yet to be decided, but Northland, Waikato and Canterbury are picked to be the likely testing spots.
NORML president Chris Fowlie told NZPA "Our big concern is that there will be potentially biased officers taking a very subjective assessment of a driver."
The police claim the assessments will be "95 per cent" accurate - even if that is true, what about the other 5 percent that will be falsely accused?

Tis the season to be jolly, so the team at the National Organisation for the Reform of Marijuana Laws wish you a "merry-juana",
a safe and salubrious festive season, and all the best for the new year.
We have acheived a lot in 2003, and here's hoping that 2004 will bring us even closer to ending cannabis prohibition.
Of course, while others "toast" the New Year with excessive use of alcohol, you may wish to indulge in something more
enlightened, and spark a light* for freedom!
* please take a few minutes to learn your civil rights - unfortunately many people are arrested for enjoying cannabis over the holiday season, and learning your
rights now could save a whole lot of trouble later...
