I couldn't help but notice that one of the photos used in the "Narks on campus" coverage was of protesters with a banner quoting Inspector Campbell saying "We have more important things to do" than deal with the 4:20s. It was certainly a poignant image in context of the photo montage. Was its presence just a coincidence?

Was its presence just a coincidence? thats a damn good question potshots. I've just had a look at the offending news paper clip and low-and-behold it is there and I recall reading the ODT article that the Inspector Campbell statement was in.
I like to think that I'm fairly onto it but having said that the coincidence point hadn't even occurred to me and I do remember having read the article that the inspectors comment was in.
Having said that I wonder how may others (like myself) that this point was lost on? |

| Over the past few days I have seen notices noticeboards calling for a protest over the university's attempts to shutdown Norml's protests at the university registry this Friday at 2 PM. Today however I saw notices calling on students to hold a protest for a drug free campus, same place and time as other protest. Just a note for anyone who is attending there may be some unwanted company. |

All the anti-drug protesters are doing is feeding the fire. All the attention's gonna go to NORML and the ISO. The protesters actually couldn't have asked for much better. There'll be more numbers, and more conflict, making it more memorable.
Can't wait to see how this plays out. Hopefully the media get involved. Even though they are NOT OUR FRIEND , they are a main method of exposure.
Let's just hope this time they tone down the stupid BIG BROTHER IS WATCHING YOU signs etc, and make it more about cannabis than about angry teenagers.
Also, it would appear today that the trespass orders have been rescinded. Excellent. |

can you please change your tone about the media, or direct it to the big boys, if you look at the work that the small boys are doing youll see that they do more of a reporting job than the big boys,
and yes you have freinds in the media.
see you at the protest, bring your buds. |

If you're talking to me, that was a tongue-in-cheek dig at Steve's dislike for the media.
I know the ODT and Critic et al are doing a good job... even TV3 had a shot at it. |

Think you will find for the most part it is those in the media that dictate the slant or direction we question , not so much those at the coal face .
As well , most of those in the media I know are secret users , (or not so secret at times) including the bosses . The danger is of course they refrain from positive stuff to avoid suspicion they are more than just passive supporters .

Hey Jules,
haha I'm sure you can appreciate the irony in this: in the link you posted, where you said it's good that people are showing their faces, your picture is missing! |

there is also the fact that they must report the fact, with no bias eather way, it is hard to report on positive stuff when its hard to put positive stuff out there in a way that will draw attention,
medpot will be easy to report on in a postive way but i havent seen any press realese come through our office on the subject, or any green cross people wanting to talk about the subject. |

I think the media's stance on cannabis (generally speaking) arises because of the assumption that the truth about cannabis & its use lies somewhere in between the claims made by the legalisers and those of the prohibitionists.
That's why you'll often hear prohibitionists complain about the bias of the left-wing, liberal press (much to my surprise).
Anyway, the best way to influence the media is to interact with them and try to show them, and others, that legalisation with some form of regulation is actually the middle ground between a laiss'ez faire cannabis policy and cannabis prohibition, or that prohibition is simply more trouble than its's worth (might be the easier option).
And the best way to do that IMO is to view the media as people who are just doing their jobs rather than as people who are not our friends.
Good luck with the protest. Could be a bit damp, although it's just drizzling now and not raining. |

I think you will find over the years those who have spoken out , made themselves available to the media have ended up suffering one of the many consequences ..
A visit from the law or low life , employment issues or a host of other undesirable events .
And the media seldom keep up any interest .
Over the years we have offered up Med users and even supportive medical experts conditional on names being withheld , but not interested ..
You might also find a number read this forum to keep informed..
