how wrong was the fluro Posted: Mon Oct 06, 2008 4:48 pm
a quick stop in at mitre 10 picking up some more mesh netting, led to some interesting developments.
the large physical sized fluro ~12" (105-120W) bulbs had all been moved into the el cheapo clearnace bins
i had been endorsing these as a cost effeceint clone-early veg-mother lighting . allthough there bulbs are of far lesser quality and slightly the wrong spectrum than the 135W sold by switched on, you could set up 4 of them for the price of one 135W, so forgiving the lesser lumen output, with 6 of them you get a better spread yadi ya ya.........
now the fluro's are in the el cheapo bin for $10 each, brilliant i thought, though on closer inspection the 105W have been relabelled as 60W with a stick on label, on top of the 105W printed on the box packaging.
hmmmmmmm
mitre10 false advertising?
though at $10 per 60W, they still give a better spread and as many if not more lumens than the switched on ones, but the very friendly sales women said they are no longer stocking these. for obvious reasons.
apologoes to the millions of masses that went out buying 120W fluros after reading something on a pot website, endorsed by such a reputable knowledgeable guy just like myself,[JOKE},
though even at $25 per 60W i think 4 would give the same lumen or more output as a switched on 135W, and you get better spread. if theyve worked for you, great, go by a few more for $10 before they all go. won't be imported agin...
on a side note about lighting, incase there is any confusion
a 250W bulb does not produce close to a 1/4 the lumens of a 1000W
nor does
a 400W produce close to 2/3 lumens of a 600W let alone 2/5 the lumens of a 1000W or does
a 600W produce close to 3/5 the lumens of a 1000W
etc etc
so in the case above with mitre 10, 2 of there 60W lamps dont have the same lumen output as a 120W, which is why i'd advise to have 4 if you were after the same or better lumen output. exact figures, who knows, your on the internet reading this, google it.
when considering buying new lights take the above into consideration and buy the biggest, newest proven/tested bulbs an shades (GROWSTARS IF YOU CAN IMPORT THEM) you can afford, though sometimes it is better to have two smaller lights, for example in myflower room 2.2sqm to have two 600Ws than a 1000W due to the shape of the room. 1000Ws would be great but i would have to upgrade intake/exhaust

Actually I edited out 'because your a retard" from your first post. Don't blame me - look in the mirror - that was a whine not a reason Freedom of speech comes with some responsibility too, or did you miss that somewhere ?
