Marijuana rates high among NZ teens Posted: Tue Jul 01, 2008 2:06 pm |

A Wellington drug educator says from its clients, the average starting age for smoking marijuana is 12.4-years-old
1 July 2008
A drug education group says marijuana is the drug of choice for pre teens.
The head of WellTrust Murray Trenberth is not surprised to hear five nine-year-olds have been suspended from a Rotorua primary school for smoking cannabis.
He says New Zealand kids smoke more marijuana than children in any other country.
"Over three years we've got about 2,000 clients and from them, the average starting age is 12.4 . . . so if the average is 12.4 there's a huge number smoking much younger."
Murray Trenberth says 70 percent of New Zealand kids have tried marijuana by the time they are 20, but most stop. It becomes a problem for 10 to 15 percent.

I'm a bit of a hurry to head off to work so I'll add some thoughts in here later. http://www.norml.org.nz/postp61916.html#61916 |

Wonder who has applications into GO's for funding ????
Trust "welltrust" sure can...
I love the way the so called drug education and rehab industries massage figures and create false fears about cannabis as theyl stick their noses in the Govt trough .. Cannabis is a wonderful cash cow ,

when I quickly read over this article the first thing that sprung to mind was that it again highlights the folly of prohibition.
I also had and interesting thought that would have connected this thread withs steveohs thread but what with work I've completely forgotten what it was |

Never mind, it will come to you again My first thought, after the obvious touting for business, was that like judges and coroners who periodically spout off, they are at the pointy end of prohibition and thus only see the obvious suspects, the tiny tip of the iceberg of pot users. |

Funny how the views on kids smoking cannabis differ from politician to politician..
Here a Australian labour Party MP and ex Minister of the crown and publicly outspoken against cannabis but secretly seemed to promote it..
Its low life like this that gives cannabis a bum rap.
He has just been convicted ..
tony
FORMER NSW Labor frontbencher Milton Orkopoulos regularly used a Newcastle electorate office to exchange drugs and cash for sex with a 15-year-old boy, and introduced him to fellow MPs as his step- son, a court has been told.
Orkopoulos, 50, is standing trial at Newcastle District Court on 34 child sex and drugs charges dating back to 1995.
The former minister for Aboriginal affairs is accused of plying three boys, aged 15 and 16, with drugs in exchange for sex between 1995 and 2006.
The alleged offences include the indecent assault of a boy at the 2004 ALP National Conference.
Orkopoulos has admitted smoking cannabis with a schoolboy in NSW Parliament, as well as possessing a pornographic short story about sex between two minors and an adult man. |

| So how do people rate The_Don, have his postings become so nonsensical that they are not worthy of reply or do you judge the person to have credability. |

yeah i know that but while its still illegal also there planning on a thing to erase cannabis related offenses arent they so once i get caught my record will still be clean. Then i wouldnt have to get a job or anything.Dealing harder drugs isn't worth it.Cos 40 years of my life what would you use the money for in jail. But i think about it this way going to jail is like working for 8 years like 24 hour days that would mean you wouldnt earn much cos u still spend money and yeah youll be old.But in jail you keep the cash and stuff and you can do whatever you want.Plus if they legalise it they criminal record clean
also im on norml to get stuff i know a guy who can get tinnies but i never asked him where to get stuff why get tinnies?from the same supplier as him wont make any profit .Thats why i need to buy ounces i think he can get fifty bags too cos i had seeds once but they died and he said that hell deal for me for every 5 fifties he sells he said i give him 1 50 bag
