Coming to NZ Posted: Mon Jul 14, 2008 5:05 pm |

hey guys im from Canada and im planning on coming to New Zealand next summer (your winter i guess haha) but anyways i would like some advice. So here in canada pot laws are said to be alot more relaxed compaired to other counties.
for example in Canada you can posses 15grams and under and the most tehy can or will do is make you toss it out and stomp it into the ground and if your verry unlucky you may have to pay a fine up to about $50CAN (50USD) and no criminal record at all (the fine is in the same catigoy as Jay walking)
now anything more than that amount found on you or if you do have less but it is broken up (pre rolled joints or in 1 Gram baggys) that will be looked at as posetion with intent to sell (criminal record)
also smoking in public places in not that big of a deal because most people here (smokers and non-smokers) will not relay care depending on the crowd and were this crowed is for example if there are kids around i wont smoke even tho i am only 19 myself.
i was just wondering when i come to your counrty next june if i will be able to keep up my hippy ways and habits or if maybe NewZealand is differant than over here in Canada i know New Zealand and here are saposed to be quite a bit alike but wanted to check on this topic
also how easy is it and how sketchy is it buying pot there? can you ask random people you suspect might have some or know were to get some or is that a habbit ill have to leave here in canda thanks alot you guys! |

In fact pot is everywhere but many people are very reticent to admit they have or use it. Possibly because if caught with it as a foreign national you might be at risk of having your visa revoked, hence the police would have leverage because you have something to lose, and you might tell them exactly where/how/who supplied you.
The black market is pretty darn big here, just as in Canada I guess, and so there are always the usual bullshit/ripoff creeps about, but also regular folks who like to grow for themselves but who risk losing their homes and status if they are busted. The threshold for presumption of supply is 28g. Ask around once you're here and have got to know people.
Having said that, I use the 'ask random people' when giving out NORML mags in the street. While its often very easy to spot regular pot users its always funny how many non-stoner-stereotypes will talk or admit they don't mind a smoke if they come across it. As well as funny how many stoner-stereotype-appearing people say they don't |

yea dude theres no harm in asking people just choose who you ask. If youre coming to nz to go skiing or outdoors activites you shouldnt have a problem. If all else fail just go to the pub and find a maori with red eyes. |

I have meet people that are willing to help out in the most unlikely of places, I met one guy at a first aid course that I attended. We both made small references to pot when he finally got the guts to say I wish I had of rolled up a fatty this morning.
That arvo we were smoking it up together lol _________________ Admit nothing, deny everything and make counter-accusations |

They can take our homes now !?!?!??!?!?
Also i think its going to start getting harder to smoke in the Auckland cbd now, Myers park has its security guards, Albert is getting cameras now so I assume the days of sitting in a tree or the rotunda with a bong out are over now. Not to mention the undercovers trying to stop emo/goth/metal/punk kids drinking in public these days who also nab the occasional stoner unless they like you. Seems Joints are going to be the only way of smoking in the cbd now. Also seems the cops are actually going for some of the stoners these days, I've seen a few arrests in Albert and avoided on myself, not to mention it seems they'll head to that palm tree shelter as soon as people are seen going in there.
Does that asian 'tourist' still walk around Albert and the 420 spot taking photos?
It's fairly easy to talk your way out of trouble with a young or Maori cop as long as you don't act arrogant or are up to anything else while smoking, with the oldfellas you probably won't be as lucky. Consent to a search when you have it and they may let you off yet, yet don't consent and they find it they'll most likely charge you.
Someone recently told me anything under a 1/4 oz is only a fine if busted, anyone know if this is true?
And it's easy to get weed as long as you have a bit of a personality, head to the friday 420's if your staying in auckland and most likely someone will be able to help you out, don't bother going to Hobson street to buy it's not worth it no matter how desparate you are. Asking people smoking in albert can usually score you some connections usually if you're not straight up "where can i buy?" etc _________________ Drink! Sex! Cigarettes!

The aussies are just as bad as the poms, they all seem to love spllifs.
Here in NZ I think most people enjoy pure bud joints, but their are the odd few that enjoy spllifs.
$20 for a tinny - 1g
$50 for a 50 bag - 3g (Approx)
$150-200 for 1/2 Oz (Depending on dealer)
$300-400 for Oz (Depending on dealer) _________________ Admit nothing, deny everything and make counter-accusations |
