50 yr old plus cannabis and medpot users. Posted: Tue Nov 13, 2007 7:45 pm
I wonder if if might not be appropriate for shall we say the more mature cannabis users to identify ( not completely) them selves as such.
The media and others try and conjure up an image of cannabis users as being young immature and irresponsible .. The reality is the majority are actually responsible mature adults.
I think it may help dispel the myth the more radical prohibitionists propagate , that long term cannabis use turns you into a brain dead zombie ..or has you kill yourself..
I was bron in 1949 , 8 yrs cannabis use in the 60's and 70's , 5 yrs lately.( medpot now) .
In principle with you Tony. Im a '71 child, 2 kids, run a sml business, responsible sort, never been in trouble etc and have used pot for 10+ years. The only thing is if I actively promoted the fact I like using it I would loose some of my clients almost overnight, which would have a detrimental effect on my business. Small towns are like that unfortunatly and in the business comumnity they scorn druggies(because of the very issues you raised).
I simply cannot afford that kind of exposure.

Born 1947. one minor alcohol fuelled conviction at age nineteen, nothing since. One daughter, a graduate that does not smoke the weed.
Started smoking 28 years ago when 32 years old. Studied for technical level qualifications and gained well paid responsible positions in heavy industry.
Mostly grown my own, buying the odd ounce as required, have never sold
any, would not have the balls to be a trader, besides I don't need the money and can do without the hassle and potential consequences.
Have smoked tobacco since age 16 and drink a moderate amount of alcohol. So far so good, my lung capacity is excellent and I have no health problems so lfe is good.
I am 59 and have been smoking pot since age 18. I don't use tobacco or alcohol - why would I, they are rubbish.
I know plenty of people my age and older who are regular tokers. Maybe we should join Grey Power - 55 is the age for membership.
I have tried to get to talk to some Grey Power groups , but no luck so far..Although one current executive member did suggest we start a Grey Power medpot users group and see how many showed an interest . Great idea if there was less fear of the consequences of being identified as a cannabis user ..

Five years away from 50 here (sorry, but how scary is that!)
Maybe I could get probationary membership to this club.
Used herb regularly for over half a life time and
...haven't commited any non-herb related crimes..
...can hold a reasonably intelligent conversation, have worked hard and paid taxes, do volunteer work and donate to charities..
...lungs are clear, memory's pretty good, there's no twitching or hearing of voices..
Of course, if the Govt and their law enforcement thugs had "had their way", all of the above might not have been the case. _________________ IF 25 YEARS OF SMOKING DOPE HAS ADDLED MY BRAIN, I MUST HAVE BEEN AN INTELLECTUAL GIANT IN MY YOUTH ~Tim Shadbolt

Oh dear, show and tell again.
Was also born 1960, started smoking fags 1972, and using pot 1974. Lungs still pretty darn good but I don't do buckies, bongs or spots, just a weenie pipe. Am pretty fit, cycle or bus everywhere. Haven't committed any non-drug crime, but was locked up once for possession of large amount. Jail was an outrageously expensive waste of my time and other taxpayers money. Not my money, I was out of the workforce, doh ! Did back out the driveway once (not stoned) and a cyclist hit me but he was OK, and I got a fine. Owned own home since 1987, responsible, kind and usually patient parent, rah rah.
Cannabis was fun for years, but now I just usually use it to sleep, have stress-related insomnia quite often (single parent). Apart from that have pretty darn good health so far, no twitching or voices either
Not altogether sure about intelligent conversation these days am too tired to string together more than the sentences I particularly need

Grey Power, yes that reminds me, I've sent all the executive and secretaries with internet contact details a nice email with medpot information before, And never heard a peep from a single one of them (who said the older generation has better manners?) It makes me when they say rah rah...'the good old days'. What with those huge lumps under their carpet many of them must have had a shitload of trouble keeping their balance back then - with all the misogyny, domestic etc abuse and other shite all swept under there. Has anything changed, I hope so ! Having said that, the old ladies in this area are a hoot, but most don't have a bar of politics, their husbands are dead and they seem pretty happy to me. Time to stop the rant . . . _________________ If voting could really change things, it would be illegal.
looks like i could join grey power, but why would i want to, they look like a bunch of fatuous dingbats on tv.
oh, and i'm not really a medicinal user, do not have illnesses or worrying mental states, ever. touch wood...

Yes, why would you want to join Grey Power.
Every election Winston Peters courts Grey Power and then Grey Power votes for WiNZton First. Then post-election WiNZton goes back on his word by putting himself first in his quest for the baubles of power (Jim Banderton must be jealous). Grey Power gets annoyed (there was some grumbling about his Grey Power card) but have usually forgotten, due to senile dementia most probably, what happened the previous election by the time the next one comes around.
In fact, I was surprised that Winston didn't donate WiNZton First's election overspending repayment to the Alzheimer's Foundation. Maybe he will now.
And let's not forget that it is NZ First that would like to tie the proposed drugged driving law in with the Misuse of Drugs Act.

While we are putting the boot into our senior retards, "Lest we forget" LIFE education's "coup" this year of getting the RSA to support them and their "the great brain robbery" book. Actually, I see that as definite sign that LIFE is on the way out, but unfortunately they and other prohibitionists will malinger on for a while yet. Trevor Grice has probably been getting people to remember him in their wills, for years.
Winnie has paid for his last election promise to old people - that Gold card thing, like they really needed it eh...
By the way winnie, nice donation to the hospital, now its time to pay us taxpayers back the $158k...... _________________ A pain free day the marijuana way.
