Does anyone know what happened in the air NZ drug testing case ,it seems to have disappeared .I run a company that is looking at being forced into drug testing ,which I am against and was wondering the outcome up north if anyone can help Thamks  |

I don't know what happened with the case.
If you sign a contract with an employer which includes provision for drug testing, you have already consented to being tested. My suggestion....don't agree to it! I would never work for a company that included drug testing as a condition of employment, but if others do agree to be tested, then they should have that choice.
There is nothing wrong with a union fighting against the inclusion of a drug testing clause, but at the end of the day, you can only be tested if you have consented to doing so. |

Yeah point granted .the stories this I work for a forestry consultancey company as a contractor ,Their new contract comes out in a couple months and it insists on pre-employment and random drug testing .Nice to say no but this is the main source of income for myself and 9 employees ?
Suggestions? know a good contrct lawyer  |

Contracts aren't a one way street, they are an agreement. If you have a union to negotiate on your behalf, and you wish to use them, do so.
Industrial action, if it come to that, is a perfectly legitimate way to get the conditions you want. |

It is back in court on February 16th for an estimated three days.
There is lots about the court case on the website of the Engineering, Printing and Manufacturing Union (EPMU):
