Opinions On Cannibus & Cannibus Users Posted: Mon May 16, 2005 4:58 pm
Hey There all,
I am a cannibus smoker and proud of it...
This topic is mainly for non-tokers but all opinions are great
I was just wondering if any non-tokers would like to post their opinions of Cannibus and Cannibus users.
I think this would be interesting to see how many opinions follow the trend of societal damnation of cannibus and users and how many people have formed their own conclusions and decisions on cannibus and its friends (users & enthusiasts).
Ie...
Whats your opinion on cannibus?
How do you feel about its current legal status? (probably answered in the above question).
Do you think that society has drawn a stereotype of cannibus users? Explain?
What do you think about cannibus users? (this ones mainly for the non tokers out there).
BTW. Please dont put any derogatory marks about any opinions on here otherwise it will not work. Just accept other peoples opinions for what they are rather than putting them down based upon these.
Sorry im a smoker, but had to post.
(you proably wont get many post cos non smokers dont seek out these sites much!)
I feel it should be legal considering the effects of other drugs compared to pot.
I feel sad that because i smoke pot it has to be a dirty little secret (i work in education sector) when it effects noone else but me.
And i feel peeved at the misconception of alot of non smokers as its just properganda and theres no real need for it.
Anyway thats my opinion!
Thanks.
My opinion on cannabis is that it is a great way to relax, and makes playstation a lot more interesting. Its never really a good idea to smoke on the job, but if you have been there a long time and know the job backwards, its all good to have a smoke. I want to get hiigh, so hiigh...
The current legal status I would obviously like to see changed, but in the big picture there are more important laws and politics to take care of before we legalize pot. I smoke in public a lot and have never been caught.
Society has a definate steriotype of stoners, but in reality, stoner is still an individual, they just share a few of many "common personality traits" _________________ <<Dub3koT <<

Infex, sorry to be pedantic but thought I should point out that it is spelt 'cannabis'. You might want to edit your post to fix those.
As for pot, I think that there is bias on both sides of the coin and that it all comes down to the media frenzy....however I do think that there is a lot more bias on the prohibitionist side (e.g. using old information, propaganda and straight out lies, basing most of their argument purely on misinformed notions and emotions). It is frustrating to see that so much prohibitionist propaganda does get media attention from major publications on a regular basis.
I think that when you look at it logically, from a purely people-centred, 'harm reduction' point of view, then prohibition of cannabis does not make sense. The majority of the 'harms' associated with cannabis actually arise from its legal status rather than the herb itself (e.g. criminal convitions and imprisonment, loss of job due to drug test or convition, seperation from family, paranoia induced stress, low quality product, easy access by minors, potential introduction to criminal aspects, other drugs etc).
And then you look and see that NZ has the highest rate of cannabis use in the world, so it is clear and plainly obvious that prohibition isn't working. We spend MILLIONS of dollars each year inflicting the above mentioned harms (plus more) upon New Zealanders, yet it does not stop them from using cannabis at all. Incase you didn't know it, NZ also has the highest rate of arrests for cannabis per capita in the world too.
With legalisation and regulation, we could eliminate or significantly reduce all of the above mentioned harms, as well as helping reduce the harms caused by the herb itself. Quality control of product would ensure that only small amounts had to be consumed and that the product was free from harmful chemicals and properly prepared for smoking or vapourising. Age limits would reduce the avaliability of cannabis to minors (at the moment it is easier for many 16 year olds to buy a tinny than some beers). Also, the trade of the herb would no longer be in an underground black market, meaning that rather than spending millions, the government could make millions in profit from the taxes placed on the sale of the herb similarly to alcohol and tobacco. And like alcohol and tobacco, people would be free to grow their own, up to a certain amount and provided that they did not sell it to anyone or give it to minors.
It is true that cannabis users have been stereotyped and often we reinforce those stereotypes. You only have to look at many of the posts in these norml forums to see that! The best way you can counteract this is to be a 'functioning pothead'. Basically this just means use your brain. Don't overdo the weed to the point where other aspects of your life are taking the back seat. If you're unemployed, try to do something creative or otherwise productive with your time rather than watch TV or play playstation. Listen to what others have to say and try to view it from an objective viewpoint. And then form your own opinion on that taking into consideration what you know. A mumbling, confused stoner is ammunition in the prohibitionists belt. But a thoughtful, articulate stoner takes them by surprise and then you have the upper hand.
Stay informed. Use your brain. And don't give up the fight!
By the way, to allthose people saying im a lazy stoner... SIXTY FOUR . FIVE HOUR WEEK BRUTHA!!! Im gonna get my honda accord this week _________________ <<Dub3koT <<
