Pot Culture : TV3 Doco ''HIGH TIMES'': When drugs and Kiwis get together

Posted by norml on Sunday, July 17 2005 (5279 reads)

About MarijuanaThe DominionPost, 18 July 2005
By CHALPAT SONTI

Tim Shadbolt rues the increasing popularity of cannabis - all it has done is increase the price for other users such as himself.

The Invercargill mayor's observation is one of many from prominent people in a three-part television documentary examining the history of New Zealand's illicit drug scene.

High Times, the brainchild of director and researcher David Herkt, starts with the arrest of Anna Hoffman for selling marijuana to an undercover policeman in Auckland about 1960. It was the first such arrest in New Zealand.

Pot Culture : Drug Tourists Go Dutch

Posted by norml on Monday, June 06 2005 (3073 reads)

LawsBy Megan Farrington, AlterNet Posted May 27, 2005.

A Dutch official hopes the creation of "cannabis boulevards" will help alleviate the problem of drug tourism in the Netherlands.

Gerd Leers was once a staunch prohibitionist in the Dutch Parliament, but three years as a local leader have changed his perspective. Leers, now the Mayor of Maastricht, a Dutch border city, is calling for the creation of "cannabis boulevards" in border areas to ease problems associated with cross-border drug tourism. He also seeks regulation of the supply of marijuana to coffee shops to eliminate a robust black market created by the fact that production of the plant is illegal in the Netherlands.

Pot Culture : Police Confiscate Cannabis Art

Posted by drstuey on Friday, June 13 2003 (4537 reads)

LawsPolice confiscated marijuana used as part of an exhibition in a Hamilton gallery. Platform01, a gallery run by Waikato Institute of Technology graduates, displayed a cannabis bud as part of the exhibition, Smells Like Art.

Detectives removed about 2g of cannabis from the gallery - two weeks after the exhibition opened - after a complaint from a member of the public.

A tongue in cheek PR from Nandor said that the student artists and the police had collaborated on a significant piece of social art. "Who would have thought the police contribution to the collaboration would be such a perceptive critique of the absurdity of cannabis prohibition," said Nandor.
