 | Research: Synthetic Pot Pill Gets FDA Approval |
Velocitor writes: "WASHINGTON -- A drug-maker said Tuesday the federal government has approved a new pill for cancer patients that includes a synthetic version of the active ingredient in marijuana.
Cesamet, also called Nabilone, is for chemotherapy patients. It was taken off the U.S. market 17 years ago. But Valeant Pharmaceuticals said it hopes to return the prescription drug to pharmacies within a few weeks.
The drug is designed to ease the vomiting and nausea that often follow chemotherapy treatments.
Valeant bought the formula from Eli Lilly in 2004. The new medication will compete with a Belgian-made drug that also includes synthetic THC.
