 Pot Culture: Dunedin Weed week

EventsDunedin Weed week is coming... spread the word! The program is as follows:

J Day
Saturday 7th May, High Noon – 4:20pm.
Lower Octagon.

If you haven't heard ... J Day is an international protest against cannabis prohibition. In Dunedin we are "NORML-ising" the open use of cannabis encouraging users to "stand up and be counted".

There will be a free concert this Saturday in the Octagon with some superb Dunedin sounds. The bands and deejays start at 2pm and include The Vibrasics, Hannah Howes, Taliband, Cosmic Ray, and Ras Boof & the Fireal Soundsystem. Governor's cafe will be selling damn good munchies and there'll be some time for a drumming circle too so if you've got a drum, bring it. No arrests have ever been made during J Day which is awesome considering for the past two years the protest has been followed by a march to the police station where open smoking took place.

Movie Screening
Tuesday 10th May, 9pm onwards.
12 Below@Bennu
Rockers, an iconic Jamaican Reggae film, and J Day Footage will be screened. Entry by donation

Cannabis Forum
Friday 13th May, 6.30 – 8pm.
Quad 2 Lecture Theatre, Otago University.
'Cannabis Prohibition: Weighing the Costs and Benefits".
Speakers will include Green MP Metiria Turei, a member of Community Action on Youth and Drugs, a Destiny Church Spokesperson, and members of United Future and Labour. More details coming soon…

Harvest Party
Saturday 14th May, 8pm onwards $5
King George Hall, St Leonards (on the road to Port Chalmers)
A celebration of the recent outdoor harvest. Artists include The Vibrasics, The Blistering Tongues, Phantom Power, Fireal Soundsystem And The Irie Eyes.

There will also be DakMobs (spontaneous smoke-ins) taking place throughout the city during the week. News of these will be spread by word of mouth and texting. 4.20 yea!

If ya ain't available to help us out but you believe in the cause, feel free to donate some coin to DunedinNORML on J Day, cause we're spending a lot on events for EVERYBODY (and we're afraid they don't just run on love and cookies)! We're also looking for seedlings for the Grower's Ironman if you know any growers. Also, listen to Radio1 at 5:30pm and watch Cow TV at 10pm Friday night for some interviews with NORML spokespersons Abe Gray and Simon Wallace.

see you at J day!
