NORML is holding its 2007 Conference and AGM on Saturday 24 - Sunday 25 November in Auckland.
The conference, open to all paid-up NORML members, is a great opportunity to meet and strategise with fellow law reform activists. Topics include the upcoming election; medicinal cannabis; fundraising and organisation; media training; and more. There will also be something like a party on the Saturday night.
Registration is essential. We're estimating the conference fee will be around $20 per person, to cover food and also accommodation for out-of-towners (BYO bedding). The venue, in Auckland, will be announced to those who register. Indicate your interest by emailing NORML or call us on 09 302 5255.

NORML News, Winter 2007. By Harry Cording.
Now in its fourth year, Smoke on the Water has
become one of the highlights of the cannabis calendar. A select group of cannabis connoisseurs set sail for a secret location somewhere in the Pacific Ocean, where they sampled the finest cannabis New Zealand’s growers could provide.

NORML proudly presented International J Day, also known as the Million Marijuana March in over 200 cities around the world, on Saturday 5th May 2007.
J Day is a protest against cannabis prohibition and celebration of Aotearoa's cannabis culture. This year we campaigned in support of the Green's medical marijuana bill that is before parliament, and called on medical patients to come to J Day to demonstrate their support.
While police kept away from most events, protesters in Christchurch and Motueka faced harassment.

Nelson's 'Merry Cannabis', a yuletide public defiance
of cannabis prohibition, attracted a noticeable amount
of uniformed and plainclothes police officers. That
didn’t stop the hardy crew who showed up from
inhaling. 6 uniformed police were standing in all of
the entrances to the site of the smoke in before any
law reform supporters arrived. They stayed until the
event ended after two arrests at around 2 o'clock.
Cannabis law reform supporters casually smoked
cannabis during the event, despite police warnings
that anyone lighting up would be arrested. The
staunch reform supporters who weren't dissuaded from attending spent a lot of time asking the bored and embarrassed looking police why they were there.
Not long after local media left the area, a
plainclothes officer pounced on event organiser Julian
Crawford and tried to take a joint out of his hand.
The officer made no attempt to identify himself as
police and Julian pulled his hand off his wrist. Two
more police piled on and a protracted struggle ensued
before Julian was handcuffed and taken away. A number of police appeared to deliberately avoid becoming involved in this over the top thuggish attack.
Other law reform supporters were threatened with
obstructing police and Julians brother, Alex Crawford,
was arrested and charged with possession of cannabis. Julian was charged with inciting disorder, resisting arrest and possession of cannabis.
They are bailed to appear at the Nelson District Court
on the 11th of January. They intend to plead not guilty. Supporters can send donations to Julian Crawford's legal defence fund, c/- NORML, PO Box 3307 Auckland.
